Mu Madness Recap

Spring Philanthropy Event season (arguably the best time of year) has finally come and gone for the Alpha Epsilon chapter of the Phi Mu Fraternity. This year, Phi Mu sisters and their friends showed up and showed out during our second annual Mu Madness basketball competition to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

In attendance were current Phi Mu sisters, Alum, friends, students, and miracle children and their families. Everybody gathered to watch 29 teams of 5 or 6 players compete against one another in an epic display of community and support for this amazing cause. Sisters showed their support by coaching individual teams and making signs to cheer them on!

Also in attendance was our Miracle child Powie Patterson’s family. Time was dedicated to Mrs. Patterson so that she could speak about her family’s experience with Phi Mu and how it has helped them raise a significant amount of money for Powie’s treatments.

Throughout the event, attendees could watch the games, participate in an exciting raffle, write their “Why’s” on the CMN Hospitals wall, and enjoy some delicious Chick-Fil-A catering and Celsius-sponsored drinks.

Perhaps one of the most impactful ways that this event raised such an impressive amount of money was through our Miracle Man competition. 10 Fraternity men, all determined to raise the most money for the kids, engaged in a spirited competition that ultimately helped Phi Mu surpass our fundraising goal. In the end, Nick Baldini, a brother of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, won by raising $4,615 himself, earning the title of the 2023-2034 Phi Mu Alpha Epsilon Chapter Miracle Man. And his team won the entire competition!

The Phi Mu Director of Philanthropy (and current Rho Gamma!) has spent this entire semester working hard to put on such a thoughtful and inspiring event. "This was such a rewarding experience and I am so proud of all the work that everyone put into it. We raised the most money we have ever raised in a philanthropy event for CMN Hospitals, and I could not be more humbled to have been a part of it!" she excitedly told me after the event.

In the end, Phi Mu raised $23,681.69 all in support of CMNH. We couldn’t have done it without the help and support of our wonderful Fraternity and Sorority Life community, and everybody who came out to support such an amazing cause.
